GARAGE SALE

Community Garage Sale Weekend

June 4–6, 2026

Got items to clear out? Our Community Garage Sale Weekend is the perfect chance to declutter, earn extra cash, and connect with neighbors.

10 Tips to Garage Sale Success!

Use these quick tips to organize your space and accept payments easily.

🧺 Organize Your Sale for Easy Browsing

  • A clean layout makes people stay longer and buy more.
    • Group items by category (kitchen, toys, tools, décor)
    • Use tables at waist height — people buy more when they don’t have to bend
    • Hang clothing instead of folding
    • Use consistent price tags or a color‑coded system
    • Keep a “featured items” table near the street to draw people in

🔌Set Up a Tech Corner for "QR" Payments

  • Set up a small area with:
    • A phone charger or power bank
    • A backup printed QR sheet
    • A notepad to jot down payment confirmations if needed
    • A small cash box for those who still prefer cash
  • This makes you look organized and trustworthy.

📱 Offer Bundles for Fast Sales

  • Examples:
    • “Fill a bag for $5 — scan QR to pay”
    • “Any 3 books for $2 — QR or cash”
    • “Toys: 2 for $1 — QR accepted”
  • Bundles + QR = fast decisions and fewer coins to deal with.

🧽Make It Look Professional

  • Small touches increase trust and sales:
    • Clean tables
    • Matching tablecloths
    • Clear pricing
    • A friendly welcome sign
    • A shaded checkout area
    • A “Free Box” to attract foot traffic

🕒 Prepare for Peak Times

  • Expect busiest hours 9–11 AM.
  • Have:
    • A dedicated “checkout” spot
    • QR codes ready
    • A helper (if possible)
    • Bags and wrapping materials

🧰 Create QR Codes for Each Payment App

  • Use the built‑in QR codes from:
    • Venmo → App → “Share” → “Show QR Code”
    • PayPal → App → “Receive” → “QR Code”
    • Cash App → App → “My QR Code”
    • Zelle → No universal QR, but you can generate one linking to your email/phone using any QR generator
  • Pro tip: Create one master QR sheet with all your payment options so buyers can choose their preferred method.

🪧 Display QR Codes Everywhere

  • Place QR codes in three key locations:
    • At the checkout table — laminated or in a clear acrylic stand
    • On large signage — “Cash or QR Payments Accepted”
    • On price sheets — especially for higher‑value items like furniture, tools, or electronics
  • This reduces awkwardness and speeds up the line.

💵 Keep Payment Instructions Simple

  • Buyers hesitate when they’re unsure. Add a small line under your QR code:
    • “Scan to pay — please include item name in the note”
    • “No app? Cash also accepted”
    • “Exact amount only — no change available”
  • This eliminates confusion and keeps things moving.

🌐 Cross‑Selling on Facebook Marketplace & Craigslist

  • Post unique items early: Furniture, collectibles, tools, décor.
  • Use clear photos and short titles: “Vintage oak desk — Fairhills Garage Sale June 4–6.”
  • Add your QR payment options in the description for easy pre‑sales.
  • Link to the Sleepy Hollow Community Garage Sale event page so buyers can visit in person.
  • Mark sold items quickly to keep listings fresh and professional.
